Centering on ‘deep sea’ and ‘tropics’, focusing on the major national strategies and Hainan's regional characteristics, Sanya Oceanographic Institution aims to build a world-class marine training base of innovation, development & transformation base of marine science & technology, communication base of marine culture, and senior marine think tank.

Sanya Oceanographic Institution plays an important role in OUC building a world-class university. It is also an important base to support Hainan's economic and social development.

There are three centers in SOI-OUC, Tropical Marine Germplasm Resources and Breeding Engineering Center, Marine Ecological Environment Protection and Resource Development Engineering Center, and Innovation Centre for Deep Sea Observation Network, which are in the coastal area of Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, and will be built into a national marine scientific research platform and a coastal public experimental platform.

Besides, we will also build a shared modern support base for research vessels in Nanshan port.
